What’s New in ServiceNow Yokohama Key Enhancements That Matter

Written by Manisha Boddu | May 21, 2025

The ServiceNow Yokohama release introduces a host of innovations aimed at improving productivity, enhancing security, and accelerating time-to-value through smarter AI and better user experiences. This release represents a significant leap, especially for developers, service teams, and enterprise leaders looking to streamline operations and scale intelligently.

Creator Studio and Snow Studio: A Unified Developer Experience

In previous versions, building applications often meant juggling between various modules. Yokohama simplifies this with Creator Studio — a centralized workspace that consolidates tables, flows, UI elements, and logic into a single, seamless interface embedded within the main platform. Apps can be bookmarked for quick access, significantly reducing development time and context switching.

Meanwhile, Snow Studio receives performance upgrades, improved Git integration, and faster navigation, making it easier for professional developers to collaborate and manage complex applications.

Together, these tools offer a more efficient and unified development experience, empowering both citizen and pro developers to deliver high-quality apps faster.

Introducing the sn_service_desk_agent Role

Historically, organizations had to assign the broad ITIL role to service desk agents, even when their responsibilities were limited. This often led to over-permissioning and higher licensing costs.

Yokohama introduces a more targeted alternative: the sn_service_desk_agent role. Purpose-built for agents managing incidents, problems, and tasks, it supports the principle of least privilege and may offer more favourable licensing implications. It also simplifies role management, improves audit readiness, and reduces compliance risks — especially beneficial for large or distributed teams.

  1. Dashboard Exporting – Finally Native

Creating stakeholder reports used to involve manual screenshots or third-party tools. Yokohama now includes one-click export to PDF or PowerPoint directly from dashboards. This feature preserves layout and visuals, making reports instantly presentation ready. With support for scheduled exports, it’s an ideal addition for recurring reviews and executive updates.

  2. Purpose-Built CSM Business Portal

  3. The new Business Portal for Customer Service Management (CSM) is tailored for B2B interactions. Unlike the generic Service Portal, this solution supports multi-account relationships and offers streamlined request submission, knowledge lookup, and account management. It reduces the need for customization, speeds up onboarding, and greatly improves the self-service experience for external clients.

Modernized Preferences and Workspace UX

Yokohama brings a cleaner, unified Preferences UI where users can manage workspace behaviour, notifications, themes, and accessibility settings in one place. For daily users, this improves discoverability and personalization, particularly for those less familiar with the platform.

Workspaces also receive a notable usability boost: users can open records inline from lists and configure workspace tabs more intuitively. Resolved incidents now auto-close associated interactions, reducing manual work and data inconsistency.

Security First: MFA by default

To align with modern cybersecurity standards, Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is now enforced by default in Yokohama. Admins retain flexibility to adjust policies based on user roles or device trust levels. This ensures stronger baseline protection, smoother audit compliance, and reduced risk of credential-based attacks — all with less manual configuration.

Workflow Studio Upgrades

Building and troubleshooting flows is easier than ever with a revamped Workflow Studio debugger. Developers can now see real-time execution, step through flow logic, and navigate large workflows without losing context. These improvements reduce development time and help teams deploy automation more confidently and efficiently.

Smarter AI Across the Platform

Yokohama takes AI and GenAI capabilities to the next level. Now Assist is embedded across more workspaces — including CSM, HR, and FSM — and delivers contextual help, summaries, and recommendations. Email response suggestions are now AI-powered, boosting response speed and consistency.

ServiceNow Lens, a new visual AI engine, can analyze emails, screenshots, and forms, making it easier to process unstructured data. Lens also supports instance health monitoring, helping platform teams detect performance anomalies early.

Finally, the AI Agent Studio enables non-technical users to create and manage intelligent virtual agents without code. Prebuilt skills and testing tools make it easier to build cross-functional agents for IT, HR, and beyond.

New in Yokohama, Data Fabric and AI Control Tower bring more intelligence and governance to the platform’s AI layer.
Data Fabric enables real-time access to data across silos, ensuring that AI models and automation operate on fresh, accurate information.
AI Control Tower provides visibility into how AI is being used across the enterprise — tracking model performance, usage, and ensuring responsible AI practices. Together, they offer the observability and governance enterprises need to scale AI with confidence.

For clients, this means more reliable insights, stronger AI governance, and faster time-to-value — all while maintaining transparency and control. These tools help organizations confidently scale AI without sacrificing trust, compliance, or operational integrity.
