The move towards electronic medical records has brought tremendous innovation to the healthcare industry. Unfortunately, it also brought new complications into physicians' and clinicians' lives – such as resolving IT issues related to EMR platforms. In between dealing with patient care complexities, clinicians are left with little time to document software issues. Additionally, when faced with application errors, most doctors reboot the machine and move on. Epic is a multi-million dollar investment for most organizations, and it's critical to patient care, so getting it running smoothly is high on IT's agenda.

As the ITSM Manager at UK HealthCare, Paul Glenn understood that doctors and clinicians were less likely to report a software issue if it meant taking time away from their patients. So, to advance UK Healthcare's patient service mission, Paul worked with INRY and ServiceNow to provide a "Help" button within Epic that integrated seamlessly with ServiceNow ITSM.  The "Help" button allows doctors to submit a service request in a single click -- including application context, notes, and screenshots, without leaving Epic. This solution also helps administrators, clinicians, nurses, and doctors to suggest improvements and provide ideas for enhancements.

This session will review some of the unique aspects of IT Service Management in healthcare. It also covers the ROI from powerful solution area integrations, including reducing Epic rollout times up to six months and service request calls, improving request handling times, and facilitating high EMR system availability. Finally, it highlights how the Epic integration is just one way that ServiceNow and INRY can improve the healthcare experience to benefit patients and healthcare providers.

Highlights from the session:

  • What is the solution about? What does it solve?
  • How did EMR integration help UKYH?
  • What is the current solution and roadmap?
  • What does the ServiceNow solution do? What changed now?
