Starting 2020, ITAM has Software Asset Management (SAM) priced per computer and Hardware Asset Management (HAM) professional priced by subscription unit. Besides these two products, HAM also has a basic edition that is part of the ServiceNow core product and included in most platform licensing.

Asset management in ServiceNow aligns closely with the CMDB implementation. The technical ServiceNow implementation is very straightforward, similar to other ServiceNow products, consisting of steps such as enabling plugins and setting up user rights.

Software Asset Management (SAM) has additional features like publisher packs used to track specific licensing. Hardware asset management is very closely tied to CMDB and is required before implementing SAM. It is essential to sequence all these activities so that the data and processes can mature in the right order.
